Joanna Manaves's profile

The UHVA's 2020 Endorsed Candidates for the US Senate

Joanna Manaves is a Chicago area finance and supply chain professional who has served as director of planning and materials management at Peacock Foods since 2002. In addition to her professional pursuits, Joanna Manaves is a regional vice president for the United Hellenic Voters of America (UHVA).

Founded in 1974, the UHVA is a nonpartisan political organization that works to address the concerns of members of the Greek-American community in Chicago. As part of its due diligence in the political process, it recently put out a list of the candidates it has endorsed for the 2020 Illinois primary election. In regard to the US Senate, the UHVA endorsed Republican Mark Curran and Independent Willie Wilson.

Curran, who received 82 percent of the vote from the Cook County Republican Party, was also endorsed by the Daily Herald and Chicago Sun-Times. Prior to running for Senate, he served 12 years as Lake County Sheriff, where he implemented the Community Safety Team. He is also highly involved in the community, having volunteered as a Libertyville basketball, baseball, and soccer coach, and holding membership with the St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus.

Wilson, meanwhile, is a former Chicago mayoral candidate and Democratic candidate for president. He is running on a campaign based upon unity, with a rejection of the Republican versus Democrat model of politics.
